Amgen is seeking a Research Project Management, Sr Manager to lead cross-functional teams in internal project and external relationship management for a variety of initiatives across academia and industry. The role is a part of the Portfolio Strategy and Execution group within Amgens R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization. Remote work will be considered for the right candidates.

The Senior Manager will support the overarching goals of augmenting Amgens access to external innovation & knowledge and strengthening Amgens scientific reputation through leading Amgens Scientific Advisory Boards, Scientific Conferences, and External Outreach Committee. Additionally, the Senior manager will provide support to the External Engagement team by driving and implementing team goals, metrics and initiatives, including identifying new strategic initiatives and areas for continuous improvement. This will be a highly collaborative role, requiring excellent communication skills with a wide range of stake holders, including Research leadership, scientists, external advisors, and other RDSO colleagues.

Successful individuals will have opportunities to grow within the role, the broader R&D Strategy and Operations organization, and Amgen as an enterprise.

  • Ensure timely design, execution, and in-person support (locations move around the US) of 3-4 Scientific Advisory Boards a year
  • Partner to define where, when, and how the External Engagement team will support R&D collaborations
  • Identify new initiatives to support, crafting business cases, identifying tradeoffs, and supporting any necessary change management
  • Gather, analyze and synthesize cross-functional information from a variety of sources to turn unstructured business issues into clear action plans in projects
  • Serve as an integrator across multiple R&D and Amgen-wide initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders by proactively communicating, seeking advice, and facilitating critical business decisions
  • Adapt to a rapidly changing, fast-moving and often ambiguous environment
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and motivate project stakeholders to gain alignment on goals and deliverables
  • Support RDSO leadership to continuously assess what scope of collaborations to support and how best to do so

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate Degree or Masters degree and 6 years of relevant experience

OR

Bachelors degree and 8 years of relevant experience

OR

Associates degree and 10 years of relevant experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6+ years in the Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, including cross-functional engagement, business operations, alliance management and/or project management experience
  • Advanced life science degree or equivalent experience (i.e., strong scientific acumen)
  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research and Development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong competencies in planning, project management, and organization with the ability to lead multiple activities in parallel while maintaining a focus on quality and timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp knowledge of multiple disciplines and to learn new fields quickly
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles without authority
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
  • Independent, motivated, flexible, and resourceful to navigate a matrix environment
  • Understanding of intellectual property

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
