About the role:

Are you interested in brain diseases and would like to contribute to this important area of research in an intellectually stimulating, interdisciplinary academic environment?


The Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease at San Francisco's burgeoning Mission Bay Campus could offer you outstanding opportunities to pursue this goal and improve the lives of people around the world. The successful candidate will work directly with innovative neurobiologists to unravel disease mechanisms and identify new therapeutic targets.


The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment to advance disease-focused neuroscience. The successful candidate will also have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the capability to effectively present scientific results to other scientists.


What you will do:

  • Small rodent surgeries, including stereotactic injections and electrode implantations

  • Management of complex mouse colony, including acquisition, breeding and distribution of mice and computerized record-keeping

  • Preparation and maintenance of primary cell cultures from rodent embryos

  • General molecular biological techniques, including protein assays, gel electrophoresis, western blots and quantitative PCR

  • Histology and light microscopy techniques, including processing tissues, immunostaining and image processing


What you will need:

  • BA/BS in neuroscience, biology or a related field and at least 1 year of relevant experience

  • Molecular biology experience is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, multitasking and organizational skills

  • A strong work ethic with accuracy and attention to detail


Physical Requirements:

Bending, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds, reaching aboveshoulder level, sitting, standing, walking, carrying/lifting 20-25 pounds, repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities. May be exposed to chemical agents.
