General Information: The Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services is hiring for a Research Associate. The Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS) is an interdisciplinary community-engaged hub that brings together students, staff, faculty, and the community to advance a culture of health and equity through education, clinical practice, research, innovative programs and advocacy. IIHHS is housed within JMU's College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS). The IIHHS invites applications for an experienced and motivated Research Associate who will collaborate with JMU faculty on a chronic disease evaluation project funded by the Virginia Department of Health. The Research Associate's efforts will contribute to a 5-year funded research project examining the effectiveness of statewide chronic disease prevention and management programs. This position will work approximately 25 hours a week. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the IIHHS Associate Director of Research and Public Health in developing and implementing the Chronic Disease Evaluation Project. Work with a team of faculty, staff, and students involved in the Chronic Disease Evaluation Project. Attend internal and external project meetings. Contribute to the design, execution, and interpretation of research across a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Assist with the development of survey instruments and identify statistical models and analysis techniques. Collect, record, and analyze data. Coordinate Institution Review Board (IRB) protocol submissions to ensure the required approvals. Analyzing and interpreting results from descriptive and inferential quantitative analysis. Analyzing and interpreting results from qualitative research studies (e.g., thematic analysis, transcript coding). Oversee student work on the evaluation project. Assist with the development of student research skills. Update and maintain all tracking spreadsheets. Keep detailed and organized records. Assist with the dissemination of findings (conference presentations, posters, journal article submission, presentations to funder). Qualifications: Understanding and knowledge of research methods and statistics. Experience collecting and analyzing human subjects research data. Understanding and knowledge of best practices in research and evaluation. Experience with research design and data analysis. Experience using SPSS (or other statistical analysis software). Experience using Qualtrics or QuestionPro. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Experience submitting IRB protocols. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Excellent writing skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. A high-level of motivation, regularly demonstrated initiative, good time-management skills, and the ability to be independently productive. Additional Considerations: Experience with Program Evaluation is beneficial, but not required. Conditions of Employment: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check. This is a part-time wage position working an average of 25 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
