About the role:
The Gladstone Institute of Virology is recruiting aResearchAssociateI/II to contribute biochemistry and molecular biology skills for ongoing virologyresearch in HIV and SARS-Cov-2 with the goal of developing novel antiviral drug treatments. We are looking for candidates who are strongly motivated, work well in a team, and who could start July-August 2024
What you will do:
Overexpress and purify recombinant protein from bacterial or insect cell expression systems
Develop and perform enzyme activity assays to characterize viral target proteins for drug development Culture cell lines to support and execute various virology assays (e.g. infection studies, RNA and protein analysis including extraction, RT-qPCR or Western blot, FACS, etc.)
Design and execute experiments, interpret results, maintain excellent records, and routinely present project updates
Work independently and collaboratively to complete experiments andresearchprojects
What you will need:
BS or BA or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
1+ years of hands-on lab experience (may include any relevant laboratory coursework as part of undergraduate/master's curriculum)
Strong foundation in general biochemistry and molecular biology techniques in a BSL-2 laboratory
Outstanding communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask with effective time management
Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GraphPad Prism
What we would prefer:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Working knowledge of protein purification using AKTA purifier and of assay development.
Experience with infectious diseases and/or virology
