Research Assistant Full-Time Position Summary: This position will primarily support the educational endeavors of the Division of Rheumatology, Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill Cornell Medicine. However, there will be the opportunity to be involved with other patient research studies. Anticipated Specific Duties: Help coordinate multi-institutional education programs for medical students, residents and fellows at HSS, New York Presbyterian Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine. Work with the Rheumatology Assistant Program director to prepare and coordinate the yearly Rheumatology Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (ROSCE) Function as the primary coordinator for CLASS-Rheum, a national internet-based epidemiology curriculum for rheumatology fellows, based at Hospital for Special Surgery Send out letters to study subjects inviting them to participate in studies Administer questionnaires to study subjects in person, by mail or by phone Act as a resource for study subjects regarding study consent forms Act as a liaison between physicians, physicians' office staff and study participants Coordinate study subjects visits with physician schedules Be a contact person for study subjects regarding questions about study protocols Call study subjects between visits to ensure compliance and to answer any questions Set up and maintain electronic databases and create electronic data collection forms, e.g. REDCap Data entry into an electronic database Organize and maintain all studies' paperwork Coordinate all IRB submissions for Education Studies Submit abstracts to academic meetings to disseminate study results Help create posters, PowerPoint presentations, and manuscripts of study results Obtain tissue samples from the operating room, as necessary Qualifications Necessary Skills Computer literate: Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills Detail oriented and organized Excellent writing skills This is an ideal position for a pre-medical student who has a particular interest in medical education. The successful applicant for this position will be an organized individual who is able to perform a variety of different tasks essential to the conduct of a clinical study. He or she will be flexible, as the job description may evolve as studies progress. The Research Assistant will have access to the medical records of patients, and should appreciate this privilege, and maintain strict confidentiality with all patient medical data. The Research Assistant will also have good interpersonal skills, as he or she will be interfacing directly with patients on a routine basis. The applicant must be available on site at the hospital during study visits as well as for all educational programs for which the assistant is responsible.
