Purpose: This position would help the Principle Investigator (PI) achieve the objectives of research projects in water quality, food safety, and plant health. The incumbent is expected to help with the field work, maintain daily laboratory operations, supervise graduate students, participate in data analysis and scientific publications. Essential Job Functions: Laboratory daily operation and management Training of undergraduate and graduate students Data analysis Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Help the Principle Investigator (PI) in the daily operation and effort, in seeking funding supports from both internal and extramural sources, and in achieving the research objectives of multiple research projects in food safety, water quality, and plant health. Qualifications: A degree in microbiology or related area is required. Research Assistant requires a bachelor's degree and Research Associate requires a master's degree. Experience in food/water microbiology is required. Experience in molecular biology is preferred. Experience in bioinformatics is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics: Knowledge and skills of microbial source tracking. Knowledge and skills of microbial food safety. Knowledge and skills of molecular biology. Ability to perform research independently. Ability to develop a research proposal and grant application. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Certifications, Licenses, Regulations Missouri State driver's license Physical Demands: Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods. Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 lbs. Normal physical mobility which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account. Normal physical agility which includes ability to maneuver body while in place. Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools. Normal dexterity of hands and fingers. Normal coordination, including eye-hand and hand-foot. Normal endurance.
