Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to assist the DON in the overall operation of the Residential Living Unit in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the DON and Residential Living Unit Administrator. The Nurse Manager position also ensures that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The Nurse Manager is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties. In the absence of the Residential Living Unit Administrator and DON, charged with carrying out the resident care policies established by this facility. Staffing/Scheduling: Produces master staffing schedule, taking into consideration resident acuity and administrative needs, assigns staff with an eye to sufficient and efficient use of manpower, vacation requests and organizing deadlines. Shares responsibility with DON for review and authorization of payroll process. Continuously monitors admissions (Skilled and Intermediate) to ascertain appropriate levels of staffing. Assists in interviewing, selection, overview and orientation and training of department personnel. Maintains staff attendance records. Coordinates/Collaborates: Oversees department Infection Prevention and Control program with appropriate policies and procedures and in coordination with DON and Care Site and System resources. Oversees department QAPI in coordination with DON and Care site and system resources. Implements and enforces departmental safety standards, policies and procedures. Reviews Pharmacy Review report, implements any action necessary to respond. May serve the facility on the various committees which may include: Environment of Care, Emergency Management, Infection Control, Medical/Therapeutics, Ethics, Medical Managers committees in the absence of the DON or if assigned by the DON. Provides input for capital budget incorporating facility strategic plans, environmental modifications, workplace requirements with regard to OSHA, The Joint Commission HCFA rules and regulations for LTC, Skilled and Activities Departments. Supervises: Coaches, counsels and disciplines personnel in an objective, instructive and timely manner. Provides constructive feedback and timely evaluation of job performance of department personnel. Educates: Monitors Staff competencies and educates to maintain high proficiency. Assists with coordination of monthly staff meetings and may conduct in-services as necessary. Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
