Full-time 714 N. Michigan Street Physician Day Reports to the Practice Manager. Is responsible for developing, revising, organizing and implementing the OB Care Program for the Family Medicine Center (FMC). This includes overall development, staff coordination and scheduling. Responsible for tracking OB patients and coordinating care with Faculty, Residents, Fellows and the FMC professional staff. Plans, organizes and implements the OB continuum of care for all OB patients in accordance with the FMC and Residency goals and objectives by: Collaborating with Physician faculty, Director and Practice Manager to ensure goals, procedures and policies meet overall objectives. Coordinates a monthly OB High Risk meeting in conjunction with the OB Committee and the Residents to review and evaluate level of OB patient care. Completing the scheduling and administration of prenatal, OB smoking cessation, and parenting educational classes and staff members involved in classes. Administering an efficient and effective screening process for OB patients, including established and non-established patients. Managing the tracking system to report births, fetal demise, NICU admissions, antepartum admissions and demographic statistics; reporting situations as necessary to Social Services. Providing individual resident statistics on total and continuity deliveries. Working with community agencies, such as Healthy Babies, Health Department, WIC, etc. on referral processes, services for FMC OB patients. Attends meetings with these agencies to encourage a relationship between the agency and FMC. Developing the electronic medical record (EHR) for the OB program. Maintains the EMR charts and coordinates any needs of the program specific to the EMR. Coordinating services with financial or Social Services. Providing patients with related materials, as necessary. Assigning OB patients to Resident, Faculty, and Fellow Physicians. Making OB appointment reminder and failed appointment follow-up calls. Making post-partum appointments and sending corresponding follow-up letters. Working with Prenatal Care Coordinators at Memorial Hospital, surrounding communities, and Medicaid-based programs to address individual needs of OB patients. Coordinating OB ultrasound exams, including scheduling with the Ultrasound Technician, lab services and obstetrical proctors. In conjunction with the Physician, maintaining OB patient charts and updating computer information to ensure patient needs are addressed and documentation requirements are met. Coordinating delivery and circumcision billing on behalf of the Family Medicine Center biller on all FMC patients. Renders nursing care by: Preparing the patient for examination, taking and recording vital signs, etc. Assisting Physician with procedures, patient education and calling of patient prescriptions. Administering and recording medications as ordered by Physician. Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department. Attending and participating in conferences and seminars specific to OB care, as approved. Attending leadership development days and additional leadership training as requested. Identifying and applying for grants relating to OB educational materials for the program. Performing other job-related assignments and special projects as assigned. Coordinating OB Group Visits with staff, physicians and patients. Coordinating patient education to include prenatal classes, family planning, breastfeeding, etc ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Associate complies with the following organizational requirements: Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Education and Experience The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a registered nursing or social work program. Master's level degree preferred. If the position is filled by a Registered Nurse a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana. A minimum of two years of OB/Family Medicine experience is preferred. Knowledge & Skills Demonstrates the organization skills necessary to plan revise and develop a positive, interactive and growing OB Care program. Demonstrates strong computer skills to work with practice management software and the electronic medical record. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Demonstrates well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and interact with faculty Physicians, Family Practice Residents, Social Workers, other FMC staff and patients. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. Working Conditions Works in a clinic environment. Flexible hours and a flexible work schedule are required. Physical Demands Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
