The Registered Nurse participates in the functions of the organization and supports the missions of the facility; is responsible for managing nursing care of an assigned group of patients utilizing the nursing process; assists physicians during procedures; maintains a safe and efficient work environment; and works cooperatively and effectively with physicians and staff.


Qualifications

Education Experience/Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
  • Gastroenterology/ Endoscopy experience preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Basic computer skills (including but not limited to Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel & email)
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with others in a professional manner
  • Possesses excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well under stress/pressure
  • Capable of working in a well-organized, meticulous manner that is mindful of time and cost-effectiveness
  • Adapts effectively to changes in patient assignments & schedules
  • Provides high quality patient care that reflects sound professional judgment, clinical knowledge, and skill according to the:
  • Ohio Nurse Practice Act
  • Policies and Procedures of the facility
  • Standard of Care established by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA)
  • Plan of care established for patient
  • Age appropriateness of client served

  • Completes nursing assessment upon admission and throughout patient stay and incorporates the following:
  • Thorough admission interview with patient and/or family
  • Utilization of keen observational physical assessment skills
  • Identifies and prioritizes patients' primary needs
  • Utilizes appropriate noninvasive monitoring equipment when necessary to enhance assessment
  • Includes the patient and family assessment of the level of understanding of the planned procedure
  • Concurs with physician and reports significant assessment data
  • Implements teaching strategies that maximize efficiency in:
  • Patient preparation for the planned procedure.
  • The reduction of patient anxiety
  • The compliance with discharge instructions
  • The transition to discharge
  • Coordinates care to include the family or significant other when appropriate and acts as liaison between patient and family throughout stay.
  • Confirms and implements physician's orders
  • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills:
  • Verbally communicates with patients, families, staff and physicians in a manner that reflects respect and professionalism.
  • Documents legibly and concisely assessment data, nursing actions, and evaluations (patient outcomes), and all care rendered according to the nursing plan of care on the appropriate documents on the patient record
