Summary of the RN Unit Manager

Oversee the care management of a population of patients within an assigned area, unit or clinical function. The position conducts the nursing process, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under the scope of the State's Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. The RN Unit Manager coordinates resource utilization, timely and appropriate care interventions, and interdisciplinary communication to enhance patient and family satisfaction, adherence to center's clinical systems and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the RN Unit Manager:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating daily functions of Nursing Services Department
  • Maintain current policies, procedures, and reference materials
  • Ensure adherence to job descriptions, quality assurance program, and staffing guidelines
  • Participate in surveys and discharge planning
  • Supervise unit secretary and assist in unit protocols and standards
  • Assist in staffing needs assessment and scheduling
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services
  • Review and report on nursing care procedures, progress notes, and physician visits
  • Conduct daily rounds to observe residents and ensure nursing needs are met

Job Requirements of RN Unit Manager:

  • 3 years of supervisory experience in healthcare setting preferred
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Strong technical, assessment, and documentation skills
  • Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Team player with excellent customer service skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
  • Flexible, adaptable, and approachable with ability to work with employees and vendors
