GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in an ambulatory surgery center. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians performed in a professional and courteous manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform intake and assessment, which includes measuring patient health and wellness, both through direct observation and by conducting medical tests and evaluations.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards, doctors' orders, and facility policy.
  • Maintains /reviews patient record, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.
  • Coordinates patient care by triaging patient phone calls regarding clinical issues including pre- and post-operative instructions, test results, medications, problems, and urgent visit requests, in a timely manner and reporting any problems or potential issues directly to the supporting provider.
  • Monitors medication inventory checks expiration dates, and orders medications.
  • Set up instruments and equipment in exam/procedure rooms, as needed. Functions as scrub and/or circulating nurse in the operating room.
  • Clean rooms, instruments, and equipment in accordance with infection control standards and facility policy.
  • Order, sort, and store medical supplies. Maintain adequate par levels for all supplies. Restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Adheres to Infection control and safety guidelines, as presented by the facility.
  • Always adhere to privacy laws including HIPPA and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Document all activities/interventions, patient and family responses, medication dispensed and prescribed in the medical record.
  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education material, and provide reinforcement of any needed provider instructions
  • Teach patient and/or family procedures or treatments as indicated.
  • Perform any other procedure or task assigned within the nursing scope of practice.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems

SKILLS:

  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques
    • Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace, and confidentiality methods
      • Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data
      • Skill in rapidly assessing situation and making critical care decisions about patient care
      • Skill in effective communication between, patients, patient representatives, staff, and physicians

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work effectively as team members with physicians and other staff
  • Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff, and others in a respectful and courteous nature.
  • Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands, with emphasis on high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and transportation to travel to all office locations as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, push/pull up to 25 lbs., stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • RN Degree, BSN preferred
    • Urology Certification desirable

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Active RI RN License
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • ACLS within 1 year

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years professional nursing experience,
  • 1-year minimum recent Operating Room or Ambulatory surgery experience
    • Urology experience desirable.
