About the Facility - Phoenix VAMC, The Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center
Department of Veterans Affairs offers healthcare services to eligible military veterans at VA medical centers and outpatient clinics across the country. RN Med/Surg - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
  • The RN Med/Surg provides both direct and indirect nursing care, utilizing independent judgment, nursing actions, flexibility, organizational skills, and an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Shall be proficient in telemetry, showcasing a comprehensive skill set.
  • Shall provide direct, continuous, and comprehensive patient care in alignment with facility policies.
  • Shall perform nursing functions related to physician-prescribed treatments, ensure the delivery of effective and targeted care.
  • The RN Med/Surg plays a vital role in surgical procedures, contributing to the overall success of interventions.
  • Shall assist patients with activities of daily living, supportive and caring environment.
  • Shall operate as a circulating nurse, facilitate coordination during medical procedures to enhance patient outcomes.
  • The RN Med/Surg administer medications and IV therapies in compliance with local facility policies, the RN ensures the safe and accurate delivery of prescribed treatments.
  • Shall document plans of care and care provided in the patient's medical record, maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • The RN Med/Surg recognizes and initiates appropriate measures in emergencies and assisting with surgical/diagnostic procedures, demonstrates quick thinking and adaptability to dynamic situations.

RN Med/Surg - REQUIREMENTS
  • Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor's degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience-OR- Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing.
  • Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Must have a minimum of 24 months experience in a Med/Surg or PACU environment during the last 36 months.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) are mandatory for all specialties.
  • Evidence of current immunizations is required.
