A First Assist Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed healthcare professional who assists the surgeon during surgical procedures. They are responsible for providing patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring the patient's safety and comfort, and supporting the surgeon by carrying out delegated tasks.The following are the key duties and responsibilities of a First Assist RN:Preparing the patient for surgery by conducting preoperative assessments, explaining the procedure, and answering any questions the patient may have.Assisting the surgeon during the surgical procedure by handing them instruments, retracting tissue, and suturing incisions.Monitoring the patient's vital signs, fluid and electrolyte balance, and blood loss during the procedure.Administering medications and fluids as directed by the surgeon.Maintaining a sterile field during the surgery and ensuring that all instruments and supplies are readily available.Documenting the surgical procedure, including the surgeon's actions, the patient's response, and any deviations from the plan.Providing postoperative care for the patient, including monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and observing for signs of complications.The ideal candidate for this role should have a current RN license, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and experience working in the operating room. They should also have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure.This is a not full time but contracted travel position.
