Your Role As a WIC Dietitian or Competent Professional Authority (CPA), for Hillcrest Family Services WIC Office in Clinton, IA, your primary responsibilities include providing nutrition assessment, education, and support to WIC participants. In addition, you will: Understand and apply appropriate interview or diet history techniques. Assess client test/ measurements in relationship to WIC criteria for certification (diet history, anthropometric measurements and health questionnaires). Function as the CPA for determination of program eligibility and certification. Develop, select and tailor the WIC food package to best meet the participant's dietary needs. Provide individual, participant centered nutrition counseling, including breastfeeding support and promotion, that is responsive to the participant's needs and interests. Identify and document plans of care. Participate in community outreach activities to raise awareness of the WIC program and its benefits. Collaborate with other health professionals like physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and dental hygienists to ensure comprehensive care for participants of the WIC program. Stay up to date with the latest research/trends in nutrition and breastfeeding and participate in trainings and professional development opportunities. What You Need Dietitian licensed by the Iowa Board of Dietetic Examiners. In order to meet this requirement, must have a four-year college degree and internship or qualified Master's program. Registered nurse that is registered in the state of Iowa. Approved agency driver. May need to provide own transportation for out-of-town clinics. Theoretical knowledge of nutrition as it relates to Women, Infants and Children and be skilled in the clinical application of this theory. Effective communication skills. Knowledge in the certification and coding procedures for low and high-risk clients. Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. The purpose of the WIC program is to help keep women and their children less than five years of age, healthy and strong.
