Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the daily observation and managing of client's prescribed medication regimen(s) while assessing each client's personal need for referral to address medication(s) modifications and to refer clients to a higher level of care, as necessary. The RN will support medication compliance and monitoring of systems. The RN time must be flexed according to case mix and the needs of the clients in the program.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • The RN is responsible for medication administration (as prescribed and when necessary) and documentation of prescriber orders, precautions, and teaching.
  • The RN will oversee preventative and daily medical treatments, diabetic teaching, and supervision of such needs with individual program participants.
  • The RN will ensure the medical and safety orientation, training, and education of staff to comply with the Nurses Practice Act.
  • The RN will evaluate, develop, and implement medical and emergency procedures on-site when necessary.
  • The RN will act as a resource for consultation with physicians and staff around physical and psychological concerns while making necessary referrals as needed for evaluations. This includes evaluating medical and psychological reports, treatments, family and personal medical history, and any other behavioral issues of concern.
  • The RN is responsible for program readiness, including health screening assessments and the documentation of required medication evaluations.
  • The RN coordinates communicable disease prevention and reporting, as well as infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood-borne pathogens exposure and medical waste disposal procedures.
  • The RN is responsible for nutritional education and assessments and other health care issues pertaining to program participants.
  • The RN maintains and updates records with program staff personnel on all medical data daily (illnesses, dismissals, medications, etc.)
  • The RN will coordinate referrals with program personnel and collaborate with outside medical providers.
  • The RN will be available to program participants around personal medical issues, including any follow-up.
  • The RN will participate in staff meetings regarding program participants' medical issues of concern.
  • The RN consults with staff and makes recommendations regarding clients' physical and psychological health needs.
  • The RN maintains and completes statistical reports as required by state agencies.
  • The RN keeps all medical supplies updated and stocked, including reference material, First Aid kits, and procedure equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The RN must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts and have knowledge and experience working with patient populations diagnosed with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Experience in a residential setting is a plus. The RN should have the ability to make medical assessments of program participants' needs and prepare comprehensive and legible reports. The RN must have excellent communication skills, be able to demonstrate cultural competence and carry out all duties in compliance with HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2. The candidate must possess computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office. Must have a valid driver's license.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
