Job Description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for our Ortho/Spine Unit. Shift: Days 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

We work together to take care of our post-surgical patients and ensure that the patients and their families are ready to be discharged safe and sound. The Unit 26 team was recently awarded the love ball, which is an initiative started by our patient experience team, that shows love and gratitude toward the staff for their hard work and participation in improving patient experience The TWIG Surgical Center Unit 26 is a 24 bed adult medical surgical unit, providing 24-hour nursing care, seven days a week, to adult and geriatric patient populations with a variety of diagnoses. The Joint Commission certifies as a Joint Replacement Center of Excellence, specializing in knees, hips and shoulder replacement and repair. Both Day Shift and Night Shift available

Patients may be admitted or transferred to the orthopedic surgery unit - Unit 26 - following a surgical procedure, acute illness or injury or if recovering from diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Patients admitted to the unit include but are not limited to:

  • Major Joint Replacement - Lower Extremity
  • Major Joint Replacement - Upper Extremity
  • Hip/Femur Fracture
  • Major Small/Large Bowel Obstruction
  • Appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
  • Uterine Procedures

All beds have the capacity for remote telemetry service for stable cardiac patients and all rooms are private with sleep chairs to provide families and significant others the opportunity to spend the night, participate in the patient's plan of care and provide social support. All rooms have glass doors for easy visualization of the patient, but also have cubicle curtains providing patient privacy. All rooms have a patient lift available for patient and staff safety.

Shift: Day 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

The Inova Registered Nurse:

• Provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patient, family, nurse, and healthcare delivery team. Consistently provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. Incorporates differences into the provision of care. Conducts all patient care in a patient and family-centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education.

• Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.

• Serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment, and successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality, through relationships and access-based knowledge. Utilizes standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery. Determines process for delivery of care from direct patient and family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration.

• Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice. Serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision making and problem solving.

Requirements

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting

Education:
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing.
  • If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required from American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ACLS
  • RN Licensed or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
