Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Ensure accuracy of all sections of Multiple Data Set ( MDS ) coding to maximize company reimbursement consistent with the levels of treatment delivered and required for appropriate patient / resident care ( CMI ).
  • Ensure accuracy of clinical paperwork (assessment and accompanying documentation) to maximize company reimbursement consistent with the levels of treatment delivered and required for appropriate patient / resident care.
  • Updates Medicare sheet every morning.
  • Completes short and long-term MDS.
  • Insurance updates.
  • Look through hospital records for all new admissions.
  • Must be certified with AAPACN (American Association of Post Acute Care Nursing) with more than 3 years of experience.
  • Must know how to obtain a CMI (Case Mix Index) measures.
  • Care plan proficient and provide care plan education to the nursing team including skilled notes CNA documentation.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Case management w/ managed care (maximize therapy and nursing services provided to residents in order to maximize patient-centered outcomes)
  • This position manages clinical and financial record keeping and dissemination of these records to appropriate payors. This includes overseeing UMR reviews and any appeals processes.
  • Take joint ownership of care conferences with social workers.

Reporting structure
  • Reports directly to DoN
  • Surrogate for DoN in managing Nurse Managers

Skills required
  • Knowledge / SME coding (ICD-10)
  • Constantly questions / Attention to detail
  • Revisiting assessments to ensure accuracy
  • Pursuit of getting it exactly right
  • Constantly question / validate information

Certification required
RN not required but highly desired
AANAC certification (desired, must have within 12 months of employment)
