GENERAL SUMMARY: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is certified in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior analysis services to students with disabilities in the school environment, under the direction and close supervision of an RBT Supervisor and/or an RBT Requirements Coordinator, who are responsible for all work RBTs perform. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement and progress monitor behavior intervention plans in accordance with the IDEA. Assist Special Education teacher in supporting students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) within the school setting. Collaborate with members of the IEP team (GE teacher, Education Specialist, Speech and Language Pathologist, Instructional Aides, Administrators, Program Specialist and Other Service providers) to ensure Behavior Intervention Plans are implemented with fidelity. Provide support to students receiving mental health services that require behavioral support, per Individual Education Plans. Provide individual or small group instruction & support to students. Cross-collaborate with outside agencies. Consistently track, per the benchmark dates in the IEP goal/s and input data for individual students. Implement student responsibility and monitoring plan/s to facilitate student independence. Teach student/s behavior strategies per the Behavior Intervention Plan Implement de-escalation techniques Implement the IEP with fidelity (i.e. provide 1:1 support to student in classroom, support student(s) with toileting needs, assist with health-related needs (g-tube, feeding, administration of medication) (under supervision of school nurse) and assist with the physical needs of students (lifting/ assisting with mobility, implementing student stretching/exercise routines.) Demonstrate knowledge of and support of, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, equity commitments, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. QUALIFICATIONS: Required knowledge, skills & abilities: Knowledge of disabilities, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities, development delays and autism Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles. Ability and willingness to implement Behavior Intervention Plans Ability and willingness to reflect and improve. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities. Ability to handle emotionally charged situations through use of problem-solving and mediation techniques. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community. Experience working in Special Education Ability to work independently Ability to excel as a member of a team. Ability to work with an ethnically and economically diverse student body. Ability to maintain confidentiality Minimum educational level: Meet Registered Behavior Technician criteria including passing the exam and receiving ongoing supervision High School Diploma required, Bachelor's Diploma preferred Experience Required: 2 + years working with students in an education or residential setting preferred Trained in positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and de escalate behavior Maintain training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and de escalate behavior by attending refresher courses within the designated time-frame Physical requirements: Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone Work authorization requirements: Clear the Department of Justice background screening Authorized to work in the United States Provide health (TB) clearance (must be renewed every four years) WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
