Great River Industries Regional HS&E Manager Location: Geismar, LA, 70734 Job Description: Exercises responsibility and authority for planning and managing the operations of the HS&E and fire prevention and protection functions on Maintenance and Construction Projects, and operating facilities. Ensures that the HS&E Department provides the requisite assistance in support of division and project activities. Job Functions and Responsibilities: Reports to and receives operational and functional guidance from the Director of HS&E. Assist in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment activities; o Participate in Job Safety Analysis/Risk Assessments as required. Provides operational and functional guidance to Area HS&E Supervisors (where applicable), the Site HS&E Managers/Supervisors, and Production Site Management. Maintains relationships with senior division construction/maintenance and project managers to assure a mutual understanding of division, project and HS&E department goals and objectives and to communicate HS&E Department efforts to meet these needs. Maintains relationships with client managers of HS&E to advise them of safety related issues which impact the project or their operating organization. Maintains continual contact with directors of federal/state Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and other governmental agencies to develop formal and informal channels of communication to assure a thorough understanding of agency policies, procedures, and practices. Coordinate with HR on Workers Compensation and Return-to-Work matters. Maintains continual contact with HS&E managers of other construction/maintenance contractors; representatives of national, regional and local HS&E organizations and with industry associations to exchange information on HS&E related issues which may affect/impact GRI operations. Maintains contact with medical care providers for the effective safety program. Manages and directs all project HS&E Department functions on construction\maintenance projects or operating facilities. Plans HS&E Department activities for projects on a short- and long-term basis taking into consideration Company/Corporate objectives, client requirements division/project needs, current and proposed HS&E regulations and construction industry HS&E developments and practices. Represents GRI in meetings with clients, governmental agencies, contractor's companies to resolve immediate HS&E issues or to formulate policies, procedures or programs to further improve HS&E programming. Develops and manages HS&E Department personnel training and development programs to meet the department's staffing requirements, with the approval of the Corporate Manager of HS&E. Submits weekly and monthly reports on a timely basis, per the agreed format. Other related duties, as assigned; Establish Routine Operating Rhythms of managing EHS communications. Weekly Safety Meetings, Status updates, Incident reviews/Safety Stand Downs, etc Continuing professional training and development and to improve skills and obtain increasingly greater qualifications. Qualifications Education / Experience / Background Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety & 3 years industrial environmental experience. OR Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science & 3 years industrial HS&S experience. OR In lieu of an academic degree, a minimum of 5 years industrial experience in a similar position and an ASP. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, slides and word processing software required; Google suite of applications preferred. A working knowledge of Safety Management Software (Intelex) applications will be an asset. Previous experience working with the Trades, maintenance or in construction; Autonomy: Ability to work toward goals without close supervision. Initiative; Leadership & Ownership for Environmental, Health and Safety culture. Supervisory skills are a plus. Well organized; Documentation & Reporting. 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar position. Versatility: Possess excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels in an industrial environment. Team player; Direct, coach, train, orient and work effectively with others through influence; Able to reach out to peers for support when unable to address EHS questions/issues; Collaborate closely with EHS counterparts in the business circuit, and corporate personnel through a variety of networks. Time management: ability to juggle multiple projects, deadlines, and workload prioritization. Material handling and exposure to heavy equipment will be an asset. Experience working with hazardous materials. Required Certification / Licenses / Training CSP certification preferred. Preferred First-Aid (L3)/CPR/AED Certified. Physical Requirements / Work Environment Typical Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week and will be required to assist with emergency call outs. Able to work for prolonged periods in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Be able to work around hazardous materials. Under certain conditions while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator and/or fall protection equipment. Required to wear safety equipment and FR clothing where appropriate. Requires frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying, and infrequent use of hand tools (shovels, brooms, etc ) and moving objects. Travel requirements will vary as necessary to provide EHS support in person at operating locations and could be as much as 50% of time depending upon regional business needs.
