Reducing COVID-19 Disparities in Los Angeles County The LA County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) is recruiting AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps members will have the option of serving 1,200 hours (three-fourths time) or 900 hours (half-time) throughout the year of service. The primary role of members will be to conduct COVID-19 outreach. When engaging in direct service activities, outreach efforts will comprise of 80% of the AmeriCorps Member time and the remaining 20% of time will be spent supporting various public health activities in local field offices. Field office assignments will focus on various topics including (but not limited to) mental health, wellness, STDs, HIV, nutrition, and wellness. Members will be required to complete an onboarding orientation as well as training to ensure they are up to date with the latest public health trends and information. Members will join a cohort and will receive mentorship to further support their development as public health professionals. This experience will provide members the opportunity to gain experience in the field while engaging with community members, business owners, stakeholders, and public health experts. Given the fluidity of COVID-19 information and mandates, candidates must be able to work well in a fast paced and changing environment. Candidates must be flexible team players and must be willing to respond to changing directives given the needs of the community. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here. Member Duties : Members will form part of outreach teams targeting areas with highest rates of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Members will provide culturally and linguistically appropriate in-person outreach among communities most impacted by COVID-19. Outreach will comprise of most of the member's time. A secondary role of members will be to provide support at an assigned community field office. Field offices offer a variety of resources for the community, allowing members the opportunity to take part in activities of their interest. Activities focus on a variety of topics including substance abuse disorders, STDs, HIV, mental health, wellness, physical activity, and nutrition. Field office exposure will allow members to work with public health teams and establish relationships with experts. Training will be provided to ensure members stay up to date with information and public health trends. Member efforts will contribute to the county's recovery journey.
