The primary purpose of this position is to work with the rangeland managers in the administration of grazing and agriculture leases on state owned rangelands. The successful candidate will also collect livestock utilization and leasehold monitoring data, and support the real property managers in managing timberlands, and commercial properties. This full-time, permanent position is represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). What's in it for you? Working Conditions: A portion of the work is in a hybrid office setting; fieldwork in remote locations will be required, and travel is an essential function of the position. Overnight stays and/or extended work hours can be expected along with exposure to inclement weather, difficult and uneven terrain, and road conditions. This position is expected to work both independently in the field or with a team. What you will be doing: As our Real Property Technician, you will have the opportunity to: Assist in gathering field data relating to soil, plant identification, composition, basal/canopy cover, and forage production. Identify and document rangeland condition, health and apparent trends using GPS/GIS to map rangeland improvements, identify/map noxious weeds, juniper thinning projects and monitor livestock use on grazing leaseholds. Inputs GPS data collected in the field, ensuring accuracy and consistency with existing data sets. Creates map products used for fieldwork, management needs, and public relations needs utilizing ESRI programs. Explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to members of the public, current lessees, authorization holders, DSL staff and other agencies. Conduct compliance site visits to lessee or authorization holder operations and sites to ensure compliance with terms and conditions. Monitor the performance of lessees to determine compliance and investigate non-compliance and reported violations. Develop and provide input for resolution with users, landowners, local governments, state and federal agencies by recommending corrective actions. Real Property staff oversees approximately 681,000 acres of surface land and 768,000 acres of sub-surface mineral and energy resources. Activities include managing rangelands, agricultural lands, timberlands, and commercial properties to generate revenue for the Common School Fund. Minimum Qualifications- to be considered for this position, please ensure you have one of the following combinations of education and experience: Two (2) years of experience in rangeland management and a bachelor's degree in rangeland science, rangeland ecology, environmental science, conservation science, crop and soil science, or other related natural resource field or three (3) additional years of related experience. OR One (1) year of experience in rangeland program management and a master's degree in rangeland science, rangeland ecology, environmental science, conservation science, or other related natural resource field. OR a Doctorate degree in rangeland science, rangeland ecology, environmental science, conservation science, or other related natural resource field.
