About the role

We are looking for an employee who is self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Responsible for taking high quality digital x-rays, maintaining diagnostic imaging equipment, and following physician orders to ensure accuracy of image is captured to better assist physicians as they make their diagnosis. Primary location will be our Arlington office, but you will float to cover all PE offices that have x-ray and will also cross-train in some of the other modalities.

Supervision Received: Reports to Manager of Diagnostics.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifts patients weighing up to 300 pounds, and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review digital images.

Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Responsibilities (This list may not include all the duties assigned.)

  • Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.

  • Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.

  • Ensures operation of Radiology equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer's recommendations and trouble-shooting equipment as required, calling in repairs when necessary.

  • Recognizes changes in patient status and appropriately communicates to nurse and/or doctor.

  • Exhibits a working knowledge of principles, practice and procedures involved in the operation of radiographic equipment.

  • Anticipates and recognizes safety hazards, legal liabilities and intervenes through appropriate channels.

  • Provides and promotes quality care in accordance with office policies and procedures.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with co-workers, patients and other employees of the department and office. Supports learning needs of new staff and radiography students.

  • Recognizes individual accountability for and participates in cost containment goals of the department and office.

  • Demonstrates continuous self-improvement through utilization of knowledge gained in clinical experience in X-ray.

  • Participates in in-service education, staff meetings and other continuing education programs to maintain optimal technical knowledge. Participates in continuing education and in-services outside Physicians East, P.A. office for 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

  • Exhibits ability to problem solve, prioritize, and evaluate patient care activities.

  • Performs procedures requiring independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative.

  • Responsible for quality of radiographs processed through digital radiography.

  • Responsible for charging procedures performed.

  • Responsible for tracking radiology reports.

  • Works with Radiology Work list and PACS system.

  • Maintains yearly CPR certification.

Location & commitments

Permanent FT role based at our Greenville (Arlington) location, Monday-Friday, 8a.m. - 4:30 p.m., 830a.m. -5p.m. and 9a.m. - 530p.m. but will also cover other locations when needed. Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but may be necessary if you are needed to cover our Urgent Care facility.

Candidate requirements: Must be a graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with an associate degree. Must be registered by ARRT and State of NC, or registry eligible. 2 years of clinical experience preferred. Knowledge of PACS, Computed/Digital Radiography and other basic computer programs.
