Job Purpose

Responsible to perform duties associated with the administration and execution of all evaluations required by the metallurgical lab in support of in-house manufacturing, assembly, and engine test, including assuring the proper maintenance of equipment. Responsible to perform the proper recording of results and for assuring the proper evaluation and judgements are made to support part and process integrity. Assist in development of procedures to support new business capabilities, allowing HAI growth and market share increase.



Key Accountabilities

  • Understand the technical requirements (ASTM, AMSE, Engineering specifications, etc.) for test methods. Assist in creating documented work instructions to define tasks to be performed.
  • Perform a variety of chemical testing, including fuel analysis for viscosity, net heat of combustion, and solution chemistry using specialized equipment.
  • Perform extraction and SEM analysis of debris from filters and other components. Report and trend resulting data.
  • Cut, mount, polish, and etch metallurgical samples in preparation for evaluation. Evaluate properly prepared samples for IGA, IGO, recast, porosity, laps, voids, shrinkage, inclusions, grain definition and size, as well as grain boundaries using established procedures and specifications. Verify results by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
  • Perform multiple inspections such as light leak, perforation check, and visual/manual weld inspections.
  • Perform receipt of controlled / raw materials, including verification that test reports meet specifications and that transit conditions are acceptable.
  • Other projects as assigned by management.


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science or Engineering in laboratory related discipline (i.e.: Metallurgy, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
  • Prefer a minimum of 1 year of hands on industrial lab experience, in the aerospace industry.

Minimum Experience:

  • The ability to demonstrate technical knowledge through a combination of schooling and experience.

Other Job-Specific Skills:

  • General knowledge of ASTM standards as well as NIST and ANSI.
  • Previous experience in the administration of electronic databases a plus.
  • Experience in government regulated environment a plus.


Working Conditions

  • Climate-controlled office environment.
  • Regular exposure to the manufacturing areas which under certain circumstances require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection and safety shoes.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds.
