JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: Quality Technician, Quality Inspector

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

ROLE:

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for the management of Genpak's Quality Assurance initiatives for their assigned plant. Responsibilities are to be completed with consideration of safety, cost, efficiency, timeliness, and production of a quality product within specifications. This is a highly collaborative position requiring strong organizational, follow up, and communication skills. The ability to cultivate relationships with corporate, the plant manufacturing team, plant vendors and customers is essential in the achievement of objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor the Quality Management System inclusive of all processes and procedures to maintain alignment with food safety, regulatory, customer, and corporate quality standards.
  • Oversee the facility's inspection and testing of materials and product to ensure adherence to quality standards.
    • Manage facility testing equipment including calibration.
  • Actively identify and address quality issues.
    • Manage the facility hold/release program
    • Interact with floor personnel daily
  • Monitor QA information systems (InfinityQS and others) to support accurate recording and tracking of quality issues.
  • Facilitate compliance with all food safety programs to include HACCP, GMP, allergen control, lot traceability, internal auditing, sanitation, and others.
  • Lead the manufacturing group during regulatory audits, SQF audits, and customer audits/visits.
  • Be HACCP certified and trained as an SQF Practitioner.
  • Lead quality and food safety related training including new hire orientation and annual refresher training.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

Interpersonal/Communication:
  • Ability to participate and/or foster communication and teamwork.
  • Ability to prioritize multi-task duties without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to disseminate information in a timely and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet scheduled deadlines, respond to emergency situations without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Communicate regularly and pro-actively with all levels of employee regarding problems or issues impacting production.
  • Record keeping, management of change, and training skills will be key in successfully implementing a consistent program across all facilities.
  • Ability to motivate, train, and delegate responsibility

Technical Knowledge:
  • Basic understanding of Quality monitoring systems (Infinity QS preferred).
  • Ability to correctly utilize measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality methodologies to propose solutions to compliance issues.

Efficiency:
  • Ability to meet or exceed performance standards and continuously improve upon them.
  • Knowledge of 8D and CAPA problem solving processes.


Compliance & Regulatory:
  • Knowledge of food safety requirements including compliance and certification requirements for SQF and GMP.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and ensure compliance with customer specific audits such as: Yum Brands, Panda Express, etc.
  • Maintain required records and documentation for internal/external audit requirements including SPC, GMP, SQF and customer specific (Panda Express, Yum).
  • Ensure compliance and train employees on standard operational procedures in relation to policies, procedures and third party GMP audits.

Safety:
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with all company policies and procedures and to uphold, support and exemplify the safety programs and standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 5 Years Quality leadership experience.
  • Computer skills in QA and company systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to train, communicate, and lead effectively.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with database applications.
  • Basic understanding of plastic physical properties and behaviors
  • Experience with plastics processing machinery preferred
