PW Traffic Engineering Technician Location Public Works Work Status Full Time THIS POSITION WILL CLOSE ON . Until Filled SALARY: $23.11 - 28.89 Hourly USD ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of technical and field engineering work in the design and construction of capital engineering projects. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Ability to assist in the design and preparation of engineering plans, maps, specifications, and cost estimates in connection with the construction and maintenance of a variety of engineering capital projects; prepares illustrative graphics such as exhibits, charts, illustrations, graphs, and location maps using Arc Map. 2. Ability to perform computer aided design (CAD) drafting in AutoCAD and computing operations in the preparation of a wide variety of engineering drawings and plans. 3. Ability to provide information and assistance to contractors, developers, engineers, and the general public on engineering services and activities; responds to general inquiries; researches maps and records; ensures issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner. 4. Ability to assist engineering staff by preparing contract specifications for use by contractors in submitting bids for construction projects and assists engineering staff with all pre-bid activities including sending out bid notifications, assisting with the preparation of addendums to bidders and preparation of the bid tabulation. 5. Ability to assist engineering staff by scheduling pre-bid, site review and pre-construction meetings. 6. Ability to prepare routine correspondence and reports detailing status of engineering design or construction projects planned or underway. 7. Ability to assist Engineering Coordinator with reviewing and processing petitions from developers and property owners for the abandonment of City rights-of-way and quitclaims of easements. 8. Ability to assist Engineering Coordinator with coordination for the Roadway Impact Fee Program including assessment and credit determination for new development; monitoring of impact fee revenues and making recommendations for impact fee transfers/expenditures. 9. Ability to assist Engineering Coordinator with coordination of various technical committees; including but not limited to the coordinator of the Roads, Water and Drainage Committee (RWD). 10. Ability to update pre-qualified contractor data base as contractors are approved to work on Capital Improvement Projects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and their application to engineering administration and data management. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. General knowledge of surveying practices and procedures and surveying law. Skill in making mathematical computations. Skill in communication with other city employees and the public by oral and written means. Ability to read and interpret field notes and construction specifications. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to holding, seeing, calculating, and writing. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to PC, CAD, and calculator. Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to change in support of engineering staff. Qualifying Education and Experience: Two years of college with course work in science, surveying, engineering, or mathematics plus two years related work experience, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Experience with a municipality preferred but not required. Must successfully complete required pre-employment screen which includes a criminal background check.
