Purchasing Manager - Port Washington, Nassau County, NY


Our client is a premier wholesale distributor in the building products industry and is seeking a skilled Purchasing Manager to facilitate the purchasing of products necessary for their business. Reporting directly to the Director of Purchasing, you will be required to build and maintain strong relationships with over 300 vendors, managing the overall purchasing process. In additional, you will work closely with Sales, Buying, Customer Service, Warehousing and accouting to ensure a seamless transaction process.


The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a well-balanced retail and commercial mindset. You should know how to evaluate market conditions and different suppliers. Strong communication skills will help you navigate our vast Vendor portfolio and maintain efficiencies in our business operation.


Responsibilities:


Manage vendor purchase orders from the time of entry to the time they arrive to the warehouse


Develop relationships with key suppliers to maintain quality of goods, timely delivery and compliance to terms of contracts


Make corrections to order quantities, pricing, discounts, payment terms, as needed.


Work with data entry to update system if products need correction regularly when PO is placed


Ensure POs are shipped in a timely manner by working with vendor or vendor representative


Follow up on backorders with the vendor to ensure they ship in a timely manner and maintain original PO pricing/discounts


Work with warehouse to monitor vendor receipts for accuracy and file claims when necessary


Work with accounting to make sure credits or deductions are properly processed by the vendor


Work with sales team to quote and process direct shipments and special orders for customers.


Work with customer service to get product ETAs, quotes for drop ship, quotes for special orders, and to issue credits to customers if needed


Provide product ETAs to sales team


Manage product availability/status


Negotiation seasonal promotions as needed



Qualifications:


Purchasing management experience preferred.


Must be detail oriented with excellent writing, organization and communication skills.


Ability to work well with others and self-manage own schedule.


Must be dependable and able to work in a collaborative and deadline driven environment.


Organized and the ability to prioritize daily responsibilities.


Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word & Excel) and legacy ERP experience preferred.


Ability to interface with all levels of the business


Have knowledge of Vendor management and Order Entry


Must be dependable and able to work in a collaborative and deadline driven environment


Proactive self-starter with good time management skills


Ability to learn new applications as needed


EDI knowledge a plus


Bachelors degree preferred
