The working environment you can expect: This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Set amid the coastal Chugach Mountains, Anchorage has ideal conditions for hiking, sightseeing, or taking on uniquely Alaskan opportunities like Arctic biking or touring the fjords of Prince William Sound. The Anchorage itinerants service area includes the Pribilof Islands and communities across the Aleutian Chain, Whittier, and McGrath. Continued employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon active enrollment and attendance in the program commencing within six months of initial hire. Successful performance of this work requires knowledge of principles and concepts of professional nursing, public and community health, and health care systems typically acquired through a course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Continued employment and advancement from Public Health Nurse I to Public Health Nurse 2 is contingent upon maintaining active enrollment, in good academic standing, and successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program within twenty-four months of initial hire, including time devoted to completing the enrollment process. "Training" and "education" are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs. "Professional experience" means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.
