Description Summary Under general supervision of the Department Chair, the TDT Instructor will supervise and train students in proper driving techniques and safety requirements in accordance with Federal and NC DMV regulations. The instructor will administer commercial driver's license (CDL) testing as a third-party examiner (if certified) for the State of North Carolina. The Instructor will perform mainly instructional work; teaching classes, instructing students in school equipment, preparing class schedules, counseling and advising students, other duties as needed and required. This position requires flexibility working days, nights and/or weekends on a regular basis. Instructor will be based in Smithfield, N.C. Knowledge & Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following: Oversees day-to-day operation of class. Registers and orients new students. Teaches classes; counsels and advises students. Inventories equipment and schedules maintenance for all equipment assigned to the class. Maintains all class records. Acts as Third Party Examiner for CDL. Be a team player. Maintain a positive attitude. Follow all policies and procedures of the TDT Program and College. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Learn methods and techniques related to training of students Work with and train students from varying backgrounds and cultures Train students using the methods and techniques prescribed by the TDT Program Follow the chain of command as it pertains to department structure Other duties as assigned. Education Minimum: High School Diploma, GED or Higher Experience Minimum: Three (3) years of driving and one (1) year as driver trainer or graduate from North Carolina Truck Driver Training School. Must have aCurrent Class A CDL License Experience Preferred: Five (5) years of driving and two (2) years as driver trainer and graduate of North Carolina Truck Driver Training School. Possess a CDL Third party Examiner certification from North Carolina. Additional Information Language Skills Ability to present ideas and concepts orally and in writing to a diverse audience and adapt communication style to that audience. Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action. Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Bilingual - Spanish is preferred. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate actions, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes. Ability to work independently while contributing to the team environment. Ability to multitask and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through completion with an attention to detail. Ability to listen to issues, synthesize information, and reach sound conclusions. Must be able to lift 50lbs. and be able to move training equipment around on the training field. The employee will be required to work both inside the classroom and outside on the training field. The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazards.
