JOB DESCRIPTION SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST Acalanes Union High School District 193 Days/Year The school psychologist serving under the direction of the Director of Educational Services functions as a consultant to counselors, teachers, administrators and parents/guardians in the areas of learning and behavior; as a specialist in testing and evaluation; and as facilitator of student mental health. Responsibilities and Duties: 1.Providing diagnostic, prescriptive, consultative and counseling services at each school. 2.Working with the guidance counselor to provide for the coordination of guidance consultant services at each school. 3.Employing appropriate procedures and techniques in dealing with student adjustment problems. They may include testing, individual and group counseling, home visits, parent/guardian and faculty conferences. 4.Providing reports on the progress of student referrals to involved staff. 5.Working with community resources in order to provide for appropriate referrals of students who are in need of educational, psychological services beyond those available in the schools. 6.Assisting in the development of inservice education program. 7.Executing such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Services. a.Participating in student study teams. b.Presiding as administrator designee on the IEP teams. c.Participating as an integral part of a crisis intervention team, as needed. Qualifications: Holds or qualifies to hold a California Pupil Personnel Services Credential-School Psychology; ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with students, parents and faculty and with the appropriate records; ability to deal with and be sensitive to the needs of young people; ability to deal politely with members of the public; knowledge of rules, regulations, procedures and policies of public schools and school districts. Working Environment Environment:An Office/School Site Environment. Physical Abilities: Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds). Reaching, stooping, pulling, pushing, bending, walking, writing on blackboard, and keyboarding. Speech, hearing and vision emphasized. The Education code requires that a criminal background check be conducted on all persons prior to employment by a school district to ascertain whether the applicant has been arrested or convicted of any crime. Conviction of certain crimes designated as a "violent felony" or a "serious felony" may disqualify a person from employment.
