Psychiatric Services Technician Singing River Health System Hospital - Pascagoula Part-Time 7a Mississippi United States Position Overview The Psychiatric Technician functions as a member of the psychiatric patient care team. He/She is responsible for a variety of routine duties involving both direct and indirect patient care, such as: assisting patients with admission and discharge activities; daily living activities; and recreational activities. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's Degree preferred. License N/A Certification Required to complete (by end of orientation) and maintain BCLS certification. Experience One (1) year experience as a Nurse Assistant or a related field required. Must have experience with nursing assistant principles, practices, and procedures. Physical Demands Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of talking without experiencing undue fatigue. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision. Mental Demands Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to working under pressure and dealing with high stress levels associated with care of behavioral health patients, fast-paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other healthcare workers. Special Demands Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.). Must have knowledge of MS Outlook. Must demonstrate the skills necessary to provide effective interventions to patients as specified by supervisor and/or treatment team; must possess the skills necessary to evaluate patient changes and modify care as demanded by the situation.
