Job Summary

To assess, treat, solve problems, counsel, educate and refer patients seen for primary or acute care in the clinic/related department, utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques.

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMNNP) will provide comprehensive mental health care to individuals of all ages, with a specific focus on psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Assess health status and health potential: plan, implement and evaluate health care needs of the patient/family.
• Plan, manage and evaluate therapeutic regimens for patients, consulting with physician(s) and other members of the health care team, including school officials.
• Plan, teach and counsel patients regarding current health care status and the signs and symptoms of illness.
• Assess growth and development of the patient.
• Perform clinical and therapeutic procedures.
• Assume a leadership role in developing nursing care policies and procedures
for the unit.
• Assist with planning and monitoring quality improvement/control for the unit.
• Perform history and physical examination, and record data.
• Identify normal and abnormal findings, and consult as needed with physician to determine the plan of treatment.

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and evaluations to determine the mental health needs of patients.

• Diagnose mental health disorders based on clinical assessments and diagnostic criteria.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients, incorporating therapeutic interventions, medication management, and other appropriate interventions.

• Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of treatment effectiveness, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.

• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors, to provide comprehensive care and ensure continuity of treatment.

• Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies.

• Offer counseling and support to patients, helping them develop coping skills and strategies to manage their mental health conditions.

• Document all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans accurately and in accordance with established protocols and regulations.

• Stay up to date with the latest research, best practices, and developments in psychiatric mental health care, and incorporate this knowledge into practice.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
