The Department of Behavioral Health is currently accepting applications forPsychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners I who provide patient care services in mental health outpatient clinics. Incumbents work under established protocols and close supervision of a physician. Duties include obtaining patient health history; performing physical examinations; furnishing medications, including controlled substances; identifying abnormal conditions and developing treatment plans; recording findings, assessments, treatment plans, follow-up examinations, and subsequent evaluations; and managing a patient caseload in consultation with a physician. The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues. DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders. DBH also provides an array of outreach/engagement, prevention, and early intervention services. DBH's core values are service, integrity, accountability, and trust. DBH is a unique County Department comprised of six (6) service areas: Outpatient Clinics and Youth Services; Substance Use Disorder and Recovery Services; 24-Hour and Emergency Services; Forensic and Homeless Services; Administrative Services; and Program Support Services. The Department currently has a workforce in excess of 1000 positions and an approximate $700 million-dollar annual budget. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background Investigation: Applicants must pass a background investigation prior to appointment, which includes fingerprinting, medical exam, and credit check (if applicable). Travel:Travel throughout the County will be required. Employees may be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Licensure/Certification:All required licensure (CA NP and CA RN) and certifications (BLS and DEA Authorization/Registration) must be obtained prior to employment start/hire date, and must be maintained through the duration of employment as a Nurse Practitioner I or Nurse Practitioner II. Promotion: Nurse Practitioners I serve in a trainee capacity and are eligible for promotion to Nurse Practitioner II upon demonstrating proficiency in a specified area of training and certification and upon receipt of a satisfactory work progress report. Incumbents must promote to Nurse Practitioner II ($101,774.40 - $133,473.60 annual salary) within twelve (12) months or be terminated. Minimum Requirements Applicants must meetALL of the requirements below: License:Must possess and maintain a current Nurse Practitioner licenseanda current Registered Nurse license. Both must be in good standing and have been issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. National Certification: Must possess and maintain certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Furnishing Number:Must possess and maintain a current furnishing number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.Indicate furnishing number in the Licenses and Certificates section of the application. Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate. A copy of the DEA certificate must be submitted with the application. Desired Qualifications Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation. Nursing experience in a public sector mental health agency is desired.
