JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Professional Coach (Instructional Coach) Reports To: Chief Executive Officer Salary: Instructional Support State Salary Schedule + Local Supplement Benefits: Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS) and NC State Health Plan FLSA Status: Exempt NEAAAT is a highly innovative regional public school that inspires and prepares all students with the STEM-related skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to meet future challenges in the global workforce and their communities. Our instructional methods are centered on hands-on, project and problem based instruction thoughtfully designed to challenge students and prepare them for the real world of work. Our school currently serves students in grades 5-12 residing in North Carolina's northeast region. Position Purpose The Professional Coach position exists to support the Development, Delivery, and Discovery (continuous improvement) of Powerful Learning Experiences at NEAAAT. The Coach collaborates with instructional coaches to design and execute a personalized growth plan for each instructional coach and tailors professional coaching services to help each instructional coach maximize his/her impact on student learning. The Coach establishes and maintains close working relationships with instructional coaches (teachers) to foster a positive working environment that is second-to-none. As a learning leader of the school, the Coach continuously seeks new and innovative practices that could be implemented at NEAAAT to achieve excellent outcomes for students and the broader community and plays a leading role in supporting coaches to implement those practices in the classroom. This position serves as a member of the Support Team and plays a major role in shaping school-wide instruction, policies and procedures at NEAAAT. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, dynamic self-starter with previous experience at the school and district level and a willingness to devote substantial time to build a world class model for the future of STEM education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Professional Coaching and Entrepreneurship Facilitates the school's Instructional Team meetings and serves as the primary coordinator of team activities. Collaborates with coaches and other instructional staff to develop curriculum materials, instructional plans, and novel instructional practices that integrate core principles of high quality teaching and learning. Recognizes the factors that may create barriers to effective coaching and adapts practice to achieve excellent results. Implements high leverage, research-based coaching strategies to help others maximize their professional potential. Models the appropriate use of high impact instructional techniques, strategies, and approaches in the classroom. Assists in the development of an effective professional learning community aligned with strategic goals, focused on results. Develops online learning resources to support the professional development of educators, internally and externally. Designs and facilitates high quality, impactful workshops and other learning experiences that result in the professional growth of educators and enhance school quality. Actively explores and fosters the school-wide integration of emerging technologies and innovative practices to maximize learning. Contributes to the growth and development of instructional teams by building internal and individual capacity for teamwork. Collaborates with school personnel to curate, celebrate, and communicate the excellent learning practices of educators and students. Serves as the school's Beginning Teacher Support Program Coordinator and manages all programmatic and fiscal components of the Beginning Teacher Support Program and induction for all new instructional staff. Other Serves as a primary brand ambassador for the school and, in doing so, models a personal commitment to excellence and strong adherence to the school's core values through verbal/written communications, behaviors and actions. Carries out all assigned action steps related to the organization's strategic plan and meets or exceeds annual performance targets. Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude toward the job and remains a highly flexible, adaptable and innovative team builder. Demonstrates a personal commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning activities. Possesses and consistently demonstrates a deep commitment to serve the needs of students and families who are first generation college goers and those typically underrepresented in postsecondary education and STEM fields. Effectively contributes to the formation and growth of highly effective teams. Performs other duties and responsibilities, as requested by the CEO. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to consistently meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and achieve program goals and objectives. Ability to create high quality training materials and external communications, including digital resources. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally. Ability to provide leadership and to supervise the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of new, modified or improved programs, services and activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations. Knowledge of confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal laws and regulations. Physical ability (able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. Ability and willingness to work well beyond a typical 40-hour work week in order to maximize effectiveness and meet program deadlines. Education, Training, Experience Bachelor's degree in education or closely related field required. Master's degree in school administration, counseling, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field preferred. Minimum of ten years experience as a middle or high school educator required. Previous experience with program development/improvement and professional development preferred. Certification and License Requirements Valid and current NC Professional Educator's License required.
