Summary & Key Responsibilities

Responsible for profit and growth for a specific state assignment. This role is active in formulating and implementing state strategies through analysis and focus on competitor behaviors including product and pricing strategies, marketplace dynamics, pricing segmentation and account level analysis. Must work collaboratively with the Product Management team as well as representatives from Actuarial, Field Sales, Underwriting, Claims and IT to accomplish goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Gather and analyze data in order to identify and recognize trends in the business. Generate reports from data to illustrate and support trends found. Make recommendations for changes that will address any issues found and support overall goals of profit and growth.
Work with the field sales team and other business partners to develop state profit and growth strategies by dissecting and managing data at a cellular level to optimize pricing, risk selection, portfolio mix, market segmentation and competitive position.
Implement rate changes with input from actuarial, the field sales team and other business partners in order to maximize profit and growth while formulating pricing packages to document rate changes.
Work closely with the field sales team in order to build expertise on state assignments.
Take an active role in the development and refinement of pricing practices across the Product Management department eliminating redundancies and establishing consistency in processes.
Participate in the annual projections for growth and profit for the assigned states by providing the analysis on trends in new business, retention, rate changes, etc.
Executes ad hoc projects as assigned by the Product Directors.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education

Two years' experience in property-casualty insurance required
Bachelors degree in a business-related field, or a combination of experience and training deemed to be the equivalent.
Requires a solid understanding of insurance pricing principles, manual rules, policy forms, and underwriting guidelines and how these components contribute to positive corporate underwriting results.
Requires a solid understanding of insurance workflow, including how policies are entered and processed. Proficiency in word processing, database software, and the creation of spreadsheets is critical for success in the position.

Communication and Collaboration Skills

Excellent business writing skills are necessary in order to communicate precisely and effectively with other State Auto associates, regulatory bodies, reinsurers, and other outside entities.
Above-average verbal communication skills are necessary in order to communicate clearly and effectively with all constituencies.

Problem Solving

Must be able to accurately resolve materials versioning conflicts, interpret written requirements, and translate them into action items.
Must be able to make judgments based upon previous experiences and factual information and recognize when and to whom to escalate issues for resolution.
