Position Overview

The Coating Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting Mermet s manufacturing processes within the Coating Department. This support shall include but not be limited to; raw materials, production methods and processes, quality systems and manufacturing equipment. The Coating Process Engineer will be responsible for investigating manufacturing processes to determine improvements and changes that will result in increased efficiencies, reduced waste, lower operating costs and safer operations within the Coating Department. Decision Making Responsibility - Routine decisions include, but are not limited to, decisions regarding; product quality pass / fail, product quality fit for use, equipment settings and adjustments, manufacturing process improvements and recommendations for process improvements. What you'll do

  • Timely resolution of non-conforming product; identification, isolation, testing, disposition and corrective action plans.
  • Aggressively identifying and solving recurring process, operational and product quality issues.
  • Proactive evaluation of manufacturing processes by conducting assessments measuring the department s safety, quality and yield by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and comparing to KPI s and year over year data. Recommend production process improvements based on data gathered.
  • Using Lean Manufacturing methods, lead cross functional improvement teams based on published reports, assessment programs and assigned projects. Results of these teams should focus on increased safety, quality and yield.
  • Creation, distribution and presentation of comprehensive reports as required.
  • Update and maintain all departmental technical specifications and related work instructions
  • Research and recommend new manufacturing improvement technologies to improve quality, productivity and cost.
  • Support new product launches, equipment / process improvements, cost / scrap reductions, project management, new equipment installations and training as requested.
  • Evaluate the coating process by creating and conducting assessment programs.
  • Identify, define and lead projects to completion and validation while always maintaining focus on 1/improved safety 2/improved material usage 3/ improved productivity.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards and confirming processes.
  • Develop and prepare reports related to environmental regulations.
  • Lend enthusiastic support to company policies and to fellow co-workers.
  • Less than 15% travel

Who you are

  • Bachelor's Degree Industrial Engineering or related field
  • The ideal candidate would have 5 to 8 years experience in process engineering, industrial engineering and/or continuous improvement in a manufacturing/plant environment
  • Strong root cause analysis tools such as 8D/DMAIC
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office -Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Power BI tool
  • Experience using Statistical Process Control and be familiar with Lean Manufacturing.
  • Textile industry experience preferred
  • Lean 6 Sigma Certification or training
