The H62/H63 Neurological Step-down Nursing Unit provides treatment for neurological medical and surgical patients. Our nursing caregiver staff is comprised of highly trained specialists in advanced neurological assessment techniques. The Neurological Step-down Unit is certified as part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center within Cleveland Clinic's nationally ranked Neurological Institute. Our nursing caregivers commonly perform complex neurological procedures that include intracranial pressure monitoring, seizure monitoring, lumbar punctures and central/arterial line placement.
A highly diverse unit, our nurses are an integral part of promoting early patient mobility, which is facilitated with modern equipment such as ceiling lifts and other devices to ensure caregiver and patient safety. A Registered Nurse in this role is familiar with complex medical histories, innovative surgical procedures, pain modalities, and comprehensive nutritional support. Your primary duties will include:
-Providing direct nursing care.
-Monitoring, recording, and communicating patients' conditions as appropriate.
-Preparing patient care plans.
-Administering prescribed medications.
Performing bedside hand-off reports and thorough bedside daily rounds.

New nursing caregivers are supported with one-on-one preceptors, as well as weekly progress meetings. Responsibilities:
- Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
- Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
- Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
- Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
- Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- BSN preferred.

- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
