The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Field Engineering team based in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Principal Field Engineer to support our Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulators (CEESIM) our Rolling Meadows location. The Field Engineer will have an in-depth background to include experience with RF or EW or RADAR. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate that enjoys learning and solving problems. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on complex electronic warfare simulators alongside a multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for an individual that is passionate, driven, a self-starter, and goal oriented.
Roles & responsibilities:
Debug issues with emitter programming based on customer requirements
Interact independently with customers and coordinate engineering efforts within the company to identify solutions to customer reported problems.
Analyze the customers' needs for their upcoming testing and recommends the best path forward to meet their requirements.
Provide Engineering support to resolve system level problems reported by the customer on delivered hardware.
Maintain operational status and configuration of Electronic Warfare Stimulators.
Utilize knowledge, special test equipment (STE), and instrumented data to troubleshoot/repair hardware failures.
Support customer missions, monitor and convey stimulator performance and assist with generating new emitters.
Generate weekly status reports documenting test events and anomalies warranting further investigation.
Conduct technical trainings and product briefing to customersBasic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree in STEM field plus 7 years of relevant experience; or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Ability to travel (up to 10%).
Ability to change physical locations based upon need.
Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing 50 lbs.
Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance that has been granted or renewed within the last 5 years or is currently enrolled in continuous evaluation.
Experience with Linux command line, editors to modify config files and XML.
Fluent in RF / Electrical test equipment, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, Oscilloscope and Digital Multi-Meters. Experience with RF generation equipment, understanding of RF synthesis and mixing techniques.
Enjoys troubleshooting & solving problems and a strong desire to understand how the system works
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a calm, patient demeaner in front of the customer.Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience troubleshooting and maintaining CEESIMs
Previous experience developing and debugging issue with EW Threat programming
Ability to navigate Linux from the command line
Experience with XML and Wireshark
Basic internet protocol (IP) understanding
Prior Military Experience
Ability to configure networks and resolve ethernet or fiber communication issues
Experience with RADAR, Electronic Warfare systems, RF Engineering, or other electronics background that includes experience testing, troubleshooting, and performing repairs.
Experience leading teams and interfacing with customersSalary Range: $84,600 - $127,000 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
