Department Summary: MITRE's Electronic Systems Development and Embedded Security department is seeking to hire a talented and creative hardware reverse engineer with a focus on microelectronics / integrated circuits (IC) to support advanced research and development projects of national significance. Qualified candidates will join and help lead a team of technical experts in embedded hardware security. This team performs hands-on hardware security assessments using a variety of equipment for deprocessing, imaging, and characterizing microelectronics at our state-of-the-art lab. Our diverse set of sponsors and research objectives provide a wide variety of interesting work opportunities. Work Type This position offers a 80% hybrid on-site schedule. Roles and Responsibilities: Lead and perform advanced reverse engineering of microelectronic components and systems, including integrated circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Develop innovative solutions and strategies for reverse engineering with invasive, semi-invasive, and non-invasive techniques, including use of focused ion beam (FIB) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), electro-optical interactions, and fault and side-channel techniques. Apply these solutions to conduct vulnerability assessments and secure design of integrated circuits
Support business development activities by identifying new opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and providing technical expertise during proposal development.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, testing, and manufacturing, to ensure successful project outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
Prepare and present technical reports, findings, and recommendations to both internal stakeholders and external clients at a high level of detail and accuracy.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the reverse engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, growth, and innovation.
Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives, including research collaborations, technology partnerships, and intellectual property protection.
Utilize state-of-the-art tools and techniques to analyze and deconstruct complex microelectronic devices and systems, while staying current with industry advancements. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in microelectronics reverse engineering, with a focus on integrated circuits, PCBs, and firmware.
Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret security clearance.
Demonstrated technical expertise in microelectronics reverse engineering, including a deep understanding of state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and best practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead complex projects and drive innovative solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven track record of success in mentoring and developing technical teams.
Familiarity with best practices and emerging technologies in the microelectronics field. Preferred Qualifications: BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar program and/or 2+ years of related experience
