We're looking for an inspiring Principal Electrical Engineer to lead electronics development of our multi-omic discovery platforms, from concept to commercialization. This is an incredible opportunity for someone with deep technical expertise combined with a passion for team leadership. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in electrical system architecture, modular design and functional management. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Engineering and be based in San Diego.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert and group lead for the electrical engineering function
  • Drive requirements gathering, design, review, verification and integration of electronic components
  • Develop electrical system architectures, schematics, simulations and technical specifications
  • Oversee troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Ensure successful production transfer (NPI activities)
  • Set goals, provide mentoring and recruit electrical engineering staff
  • Lead EMS vendor selection and provide project management support
  • Research new technologies and techniques to support innovation in our product roadmap
  • Collaborate across hardware, firmware, software, supply chain, manufacturing and field service functions

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum master's degree in electrical engineering with 15+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proven track record commercializing world-class scientific instrumentation, preferably imaging devices
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design principles, practices and tools
  • Expertise in analog & digital circuits, high speed interfaces, power management, control systems and diagnostics
  • Experience with schematic design tools, PCB layout (esp. Altium, ORCAD) and board bring-up
  • Extensive knowledge of electronic part selection such as sensors, actuators, cables and connectors
  • Strong EMS vendor network and partner management skills
  • Familiarity with C programming, MCUs and communication protocols such as CAN, SPI and I2C
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards and compliance regulations (eg: signal integrity, electrical safety, EMC/EMI)
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • At least 5 years of supervisory responsibility overseeing diverse electrical engineers

Base Compensation

  • Pay Range: $156,000 - $221,000

In addition to base compensation, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
