Principal Electrical Engineer (Technical Project Lead)

Position Summary

This is an onsite position located in Irvine, CA.

Thales is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer - Technical Project Lead to contribute and lead HW design and development projects, for In-flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) LRU products. You will be responsible to perform a subset of all the hardware-engineering design, development and certification activities required to address embedded HW product issues such as obsolescence, or in service performance improvements. Lead co-engineering project activities with the Electrical, PCB, Mechanical, SW and System engineering teams. Activities to be executed within approved work scope, contractual delivery dates and budget.

In this role, you are responsible for risk management (anticipation, action and escalation), HW development process enrichment with lessons learned and traceability to process changes; 3rd party suppliers and contractor's management. Responsibility includes managing and control project development schedule, compliance to the requirements, monitor progress and conduct projects HW milestone gate reviews, technical peer reviews and meetings.

In this position, you will work closely with Product Engineer (P2), Product Support Engineer (PSE), Industrial Engineer (ILE), Procurement, Product Manager (PM), Product Owner (PO), and HW Project Design Authority (HwPDA). Communicates and interacts with the Customer Programs team and Sr. management to present/address status, progress, risks, opportunities and action plan(s) as necessary.

Internal Customers: Product Management, SW engineering, IVVQ engineering, Industrial OPS, Purchasing and Procurement.
External customers: Airlines and OEMs (Boeing/Airbus/Comac);
External coordination/management: development partners, contract manufacturers, suppliers and vendors.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Participates in the HW design, development, test and DO-160/linefit qualification of state-of-the-art embedded mixed signal communication products within constraints provided by the Project Engineer and/or Product Manager;
Leads comprehensive milestones design gate reviews with engineering team and manufacturing partners to confirm that design parameters, cost and manufacturability requirements have been met;
Ensures that hardware-engineering aspects of projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner and will integrate efforts from various functional groups to accomplish goals;
Communicates project status and results to the management, external and internal customers,
Leads as required sustaining HW engineering investigations, process and documentation updates in collaboration with Thales industrial operations, product engineering and product support engineering teams and manufacturing partners.
Writes Technical Investigation Report (TIR), Engineering Order (EO), Supplier Notice of Change (SCN/NOC), and review IVV Test Reports.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline; +5 years' experience in electrical embedded hardware design for high speed digital and analog signals for telecom, industrial or medical systems; 1000BaseT Ethernet, USB3, SSD, SATA, NVME, Multicore x86 and ARM based SOC or processor.
Experience using schematic capture and layout viewer (ORCAD, Cadence, Mentor Graphics, PCAD, etc.).
Experience using digital test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Emulators, Debuggers; Linux machine administration and BASH, Perl scripting language.
Experience in planning, implementing, and administering engineering programs and projects.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office use: Excel, Outlook, Word, Visio, PowerPoint.
Ability to multitask in an environment required a high level of detail and accuracy, work independently and take ownership of all assigned tasks; relentlessly track and follow-up on open issues and action items; prioritize tasks while meeting deadlines; good written and communication skills, effectively managing projects and working with global cross-functional team; capable of presenting information to large group.

Special Position Requirements

Schedule:

Present for core business hours.
Requires weekly, some times daily, work with teams across the globe and with varying work schedules.
Irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to complete specific projects.

Travel:

May require up to 5% domestically and internationally.
Must keep active passport.

Benefits

The anticipated TTC range for this role is $113,627.15 - $235,994.85 USD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's status protected by local, state, or federal law.
