The Protected Communication Systems (PCS) Team is seeking an experienced Principal DevOps Engineer in a role committed to creating creative and cost-effective solutions for our ground and airborne systems. A DevOps engineer responsible for building Linux KVM virtualization clusters in a swap-constrained environment without an on-staff system administrator. Able to design scalable, resilient, and high-performance virtualization architectures. Needs a diverse skill set to ensure the successful design, implementation, and maintenance of the virtualization infrastructure. This position is eligible for relocation assistance. Qualifications/Experience Needed:
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
• Minimum of 5 years' experience (within the last 10 years) of DevOps/Cloud Engineering
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience with FOSS/COTS integration
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience working with PKI certificates, encryption protocols, SSL/TLS
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience with data exchange formats including JSON and XML
• Good understanding of data transfer protocols like FTP, SFTP, TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS
• Linux advanced administration experience (Ubuntu, CentOS)
• Demonstrate on-the-job experience with configuration management software (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
• Experience with system, network, and/or storage engineering and/or domain knowledge with systems, network, and storage
• Understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, and routing
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby to automate repetitive tasks
• Expertise in managing system resources efficiently, especially in a resource-constrained, high availability environment
• Monitoring and optimizing CPU, memory, and disk usage
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues quickly
• Understanding and practical application of security compliance frameworks, such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) or CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks
• Active SECRET Security Clearance or higher REQUIRED Security Clearance:
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
• Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements. Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience preparing required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience communicating with both technical and non-technical individuals and working on a team
• Demonstrate on-the-job experience with external authentication methods (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory)
• Demonstrate on-the-job experience with deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins)
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift etc.) and possess the ability to instantiate a containerized application
• In-depth knowledge of KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) for Linux
• Implementing and maintaining firewall rules, intrusion detection systems, and security updates

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
