Position Description:

Position: Prevention specialist

Status: Salaried/Exempt

General Description:

Under general supervision of the Program Director, provides services to at-risk youth and parents and develops relationships with community supports and programs for additional services for the youth.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports directly to the Program Director.

Qualifications (required at time of offer):

    • Bachelor's degree in social work, community development, sociology or related field.
    • Prior experience working with at-risk youth in an urban community.
    • Knowledge of Central Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent computer and technology skills to monitor the tethers.
    • Reliable transportation and knowledge of local area.
    • Prior experience with Microsoft Office and related applications or other IBM-compatible word processing program.
    • Satisfaction of all employment eligibility and Agency hiring requirements.

Responsibilities (illustrative and not intended as inclusive; specific responsibilities may vary):

    • Facilitate weekly parent support group and prepare for the group with beverages, snacks, and food box.
    • Develops relationships within assign communities with resources and participates in community events.
    • Facilitate prevention groups for at-risk youth on topics of current concern.
    • Assist TBRI facilitators with groups for parents and youth and Fostering Creativity.
    • Always ensures professional demeanor and behavior with the community.
    • Completes documentation in a timely manner.

  • Maintains professional and respectful demeanor with Agency employees, consumers, visitors, and the public.
  • Ensures all contacts are documented appropriate including logs and JAIS notes.

  • Maintains as confidential all matters related to Agency affairs and refrains from internal and external discussions related to any employee, consumer, financial, or administrative issue except as required as part of job performance.
