Overview

This is primarily a remote position - incumbents, who reside in Oregon or Washington only, may work at home, on the road or in a satellite location for all or part of their workweek. There may be occasional situations that require work to be performed on-site at an assigned Legacy Health location.

All new hires are required to come to a designated Legacy Health office location in Portland, Oregon prior to their start date for a new hire health assessment and to complete new hire paperwork. This position may require initial training and orientation to be site-based, before transitioning to the remote schedule.



Responsibilities

Your pleasant, friendly demeanor will set the tone as you contact patients and family members to complete pre-registration and other documents, help patients understand their liability, promptly return patient phone calls and inform patients of important items to bring to their procedures.

Provides Extraordinary Customer Service :

Demonstrates knowledge of all departments, units and buildings on campus to correctly direct anyone

Interviews/registers patients :

Maintains a basic understanding of the health insurance market and available products and functions as a resource to the patient or directs the patient to the appropriate resource

Maintains a thorough understanding of the Legacy financial assistance program and provides information to patients regarding the program or directs the patient to the appropriate resource

Completes Pre-Registration for scheduled services via the telephone, obtaining all pertinent demographic and financial information, notifies patient of co-pay, deductible, and coinsurance

Attempts Pre-Service collection of patient liability (co-pay and/or deductible)

Prioritize accounts by Expected Date, Estimated Liability

Obtains needed demographic, insurance, health and financial information and completed/signed forms required for services and confirmation of payment sources

Reviews and validates registration, additional insurance and provider information

Enters accurate and complete information in the system

Maintains basic knowledge pertaining to insurance issues which includes, but is not limited to Motor Vehicles, Workman's Comp, Medicare, and OHP/Washington Welfare/Medicaid


Complies with Regulatory requirements :

Understands and communicates complex information relating to admission and government forms (i.e., Advance Directive,) to patients and/or their representatives

Understands and complies with, HIPAA, Joint Commission and State Audits


Produces reports from registration data:

Follows appropriate downtime procedures as needed

Answers all incoming departmental calls

Attends all required departmental and hospital in-service programs

May train new employees




Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of two years college education including satisfactory completion of college level Health Records coursework preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of one year of healthcare experience or equivalent education in at least one of the following areas required: Pre-Registration, Admitting, Patient Access or applicable clerical support experience. Six months customer service experience required. Previous registrar and third-party payer experience preferred. An understanding of health plan and benefit structures preferred.

Skills:

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in the English language

Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment within stated guidelines

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills which promote cooperation and teamwork

Ability to withstand varying job pressures and organize/prioritize related job tasks

Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time

Excellent public relations skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in calm, succinct, business-like manner

Ability to deal with people in stressful situations

Ability to identify alternative means of communication as needed

Ability to adapt to change

Net typing of 40 WPM and PC based computer skills

Familiarity with 10 key

Knowledge of medical terminology
