Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Power Hardware Test Engineer to support and execute on the test and verification of power conversion components and systems in our battery power path. In addition to the electromechanical design and prototype work, you will help create and run verification plans and end-of-line test procedures to ensure a seamless transition from in-house prototypes to factory production. This includes driving the continuous improvement of our validation plans and capabilities, such as development of test fixtures for use in our Power Conversion Lab, Form Factory, or at contract manufacturer facilities. This role will also showcase your ability to independently organize engineering documentation and reporting of test results, as well as critical thinking on how to take a design concept through the rigor of thorough design verification. This is an exciting opportunity to move some serious power at a company focused on creating a reliable and fully renewable electric grid year-round.

What you'll do:

Identify requirements for key power conversion system components, as well as the auxiliary and BMS electronics that have mutual interfaces

Plan and execute tests that validate basic functionality and characterize performance of in-house prototypes and first-articles provided by vendors

Design and prototype test fixtures systems that route, control, monitor, disconnect and protect the power system, from enclosure to inverter

Engage with external vendors and our Supply Chain to drive and monitor third-party testing of electromechanical components that can meet design requirements at scale

Produce test plans, operating procedures, and requirements for repeating functional and reliability tests internally, as well as communicating those tests to production vendors

Evaluate, propose and implement tools, equipment and protection systems necessary for performing tests on a DUT

Scale experience gained from your lab tests to real-world product applications through hands-on opportunities at our first-in-kind field installations

Support other aspects of the power conversion system design, test and release process and grow as team and product needs evolve

What you'll bring:

2+ years of industry experience and test engineering, with background in a product development environment, specifically for electric power generation, distribution, energy storage, or drivetrains

Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or electromechanical engineering

Strong understanding of circuit fundamentals, AC and DC power systems, and the thermal and mechanical implications of these circuits at high power and high voltage

Expertise in manipulating DC and AC bench supplies, oscilloscopes, current and voltage probes, power meters, data acquisition, hi-pot and continuity testers and other electronics test equipment

Ability to prototype electrical assemblies, with a focus on producing high quality build instructions to our support team informed by first hand experience and exceptional workmanship

Discipline around high-voltage (1500 V) and high-current (> 2 kA); experience with NFPA 70E a plus

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions, summarize observations, and absorb information and requirements from other teams
