Job Title: Post Doctoral Scholar with NSF Imageomics Institute Department: Engineering Computer Science and Engineering Work with an interdisciplinary team on convergence towards developing knowledge-guided foundational machine learning models for answering grand biological questions. The qualified candidate will seek to conduct research at the intersection of natural language processing and computer vision within the NSF Imageomics Institute. This includes developing large-scale foundation models for vision and language and incorporating structured knowledge from biology as inductive biases to facilitate learning and interpretability of machine learning. The candidate will work with the rest of the Imageomics Institute, including both AI researchers and biologists, to collectively define the requirements and subsequent evaluation and develop prototype machine learning tools to help investigate a variety of biological problems. The candidate is expected to work in a team environment together with other graduate students, postdoctoral associates and software engineers in the Imageomics Institute; work closely with postdoc mentors (Profs. Su, Berger-Wolf, Chao) and rest of the institute in defining core foundational and translational research directions and advancing the nascent field of imageomics. Ideally the candidate will also forge important directions for their own research and a pathway towards an independent research career. We expect the ideal candidate to hold a PhD in a related area of science including but not limited to - Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Statistics, and to have a strong track record of publications in premier AI venues. Desired Expertise in writing research publications and presenting them at research forums (conference and workshops) Additional Information: The target hiring range for this job profile is $48,000 - $60,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc. Location: Dreese Laboratories (0279) Position Type: Term (Fixed Term) Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: First Shift Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.
