Description Responsible for the operation and supervision of a municipal pool, where professionalism and public safety are of utmost importance. Directly supervises the lifeguard and swim instructor staff, performs responsible lifeguard assignments, performs administrative duties, enforces rules and policies, and communicates effectively with the public. Performs responsible work enforcing water safety rules and regulations, rescuing distressed or drowning swimmers, taking appropriate first aid action and maintaining equipment. Opportunity for bonus pay available: Sign on bonus of $100.00 payable on 3rdpaycheck Weekly accumulative longevity bonus of $15.00 per week payable onlast check of the season. Full potential for longevity bonus for working the entire 15-week pool season, 12 hours a week or more, is $225.00 Maximumtotal bonuspotentialforworking allseasonis$325.00 Bonus pay is based on total hours worked per week, per employee. Essential Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs specialized work as it pertains to aquatics operations and maintenance. Serve as a park monitor to include: checking, restocking and cleaning park restrooms; bagging and removing trash; cleaning shelters; welcoming and greeting park visitors; monitoring park activities and alerting authorities if needed. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of aquatic safety principles, rules, regulations, and emergency action plans with the ability to perform them. Monitors, performs and documents pool maintenance, water chemistry, and supply inventory. Monitors & maintains bathhouse, pool, sprayground, fountain and surrounding ground areas for cleanliness and safety, noting potential hazards or unsafe conditions. Communicates concerns, needs, accidents, vandalism, operating situations and/or general information to the Aquatics Supervisor on a daily basis. Ensures an excellent guest experience while providing quality customer service to participants, the general public and other city employees. Assists guests with use of the facilities and equipment. Politely explains fees, hours of operation, and general information to guests. Positively encourages participants' participation of offered programs. Directs more detailed inquiries to supervisory staff. Reports problems, potential situations, and/or disturbances immediately to the supervisor on duty. Assesses and responds to emergency situations in accordance with City policies and procedures.Performs janitorial/custodial services, as needed.Performs set-up, take-down and related procedures for daily operations, swim meets and other events.Assesses and responds to emergency situations in accordance within the aquatic facility in accordance with City policies and procedures.Assists aquatic staff with emergency procedures. Assists lifeguards and instructors in performing rescues, CPR, and first aid when needed.Adheres to Lynchburg City Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures;Supervises aquatic staff including lifeguards, WSI's, cashiers, and concessions personnel.Enforces rules and regulations, intervening when necessary.Monitors & maintains bathhouse, pool and surrounding ground areas for cleanliness and safety, noting potential hazards or unsafe conditions.Completes the scheduling of aquatics staff with the assistance of the Head Cashier and Head Lifeguard.Monitors aquatics staff time log and submits to the Aquatics Supervisor;Coordinates, develops and implements in-service training for all aquatics staff.Communicates concerns, needs, accidents, vandalism, operating situations and/or general information to the Athletic Programs Coordinator on a daily basis.Insures all pool safety equipment is in proper working order.Be innovative towards maintaining guard alertness and readiness towards safety for the public.Coordinates special events with supervisor and patrons.Performs related duties as required or assigned including, but not limited to: Effectively rescuing victims in need of assistance Administering First Aid and/or CPR as needed Activating and administering the emergency action response plan Performing assigned maintenance duties Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly/routinely required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or effectively communicate.The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additional Requirements Valid certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent Valid certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Supervisory experience preferred. Prior lifeguard experience preferred. Aquatic Facility Operator Certification preferred.
