Job Summary Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator II - Aquatics, this is a safety-sensitive position exercising a high degree of discretion, trust and confidence. This position's primary responsibility is to conduct routine cleaning, maintenance, technical repair and operation related tasks for the pools, equipment and systems within the Aquatics Division. Work sites to include: Parker Recreation Center pools, H2O'Brien outdoor pool and the Discovery Park splash pad. Examples of Essential Duties Conduct repairs, preventative maintenance, and general pool equipment operation at all Aquatic Facility locations. Responsible for following proper daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists and logs work according to protocols. Maintains Aquatics Division pools, decks, fixtures and equipment in accordance with the CO pool code and national standards. Works in coordination with supervisor to ensure all equipment is kept in working order and a safe environment is upheld. Responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety of the pool facility and associated mechanical and chemical areas. This includes assisting with any necessary janitorial duties during the assigned shift. Provides exceptional customer service to both staff and customers. Serves the community with courteous, tactful and respectful actions toward customers, and co-workers. Represents the Town of Parker in a positive manner while in uniform and on the clock. Must be able to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, weekends, midday, and evening shifts. Reports promptly for assigned shifts. Communicates effectively and within policy when requesting substitutes. Will assist division management in the set up/tear down for aquatic events and pre/post season work. Exhibits safety, flexibility, creativity, efficiency and attention to detail in performing work assignments. Communicates clearly, honestly, and timely to supervisors and co-workers at all levels. Works effectively in a team environment by completing assignments, adapting to changing circumstances, and respecting diversity. Immediately reports any incidents, accidents or maintenance problems to supervisor or the MOD (Manager on Duty), and uses the proper documentation to record an incident or accident. Complies with all policies and regulations of the Parks & Recreation Department, the Town and the Health Department. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Attends meetings and training sessions as assigned by supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years of age or older. A High School diploma or GED preferred. At least 6 months - 1 year of experience in commercial pool cleaning, maintenance and operations is preferred. Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire is required. A valid Colorado Driver's License is required. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action using problem-solving techniques. Knowledge and functionality of swimming pool facilities, operations, and techniques used to maintain a swimming facility. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to work cooperatively with other sections, divisions, departments and if necessary, outside agencies or private vendors. Ability to learn the skill necessary to successfully implement policies, laws, ordinances, and regulations in relation to pool operations. Ability to operate basic hand tools including hammers, screw drivers, drills, wrenches, measuring tape, etc. Ability to communicate effectively with direct supervisor for specific parts orders. General understanding of computers and technology for tracking parts inventory, reporting, schedules, and email. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Flexibility of work hours to include nights and weekends. Ability to work 10-15 hours per week minimum during the off season and up to 20 hours per week during the summer months. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Various equipment, hand tools and motorized equipment used to maintain the pool and associated features in the appropriate condition. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job involves various degrees of physical demands, some sedentary, but others may require strenuous physical effort. All positions assigned to the Aquatics Section of the Recreation Department must be able to ensure public safety and participate in the rescue or retrieval of an individual from the pool or assist an individual suffering from a medical condition. There is no position available in this section where an employee can be assured that he or she will not have to become involved in strenuous physical activity in saving an individual's life. The employee in this position may be required to: Sit, stand, talk and hear. Communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood. Observe activity around the pool and in the pool continuously and for extended periods of time. Physically struggle, restrain or otherwise subdue/restrain individuals in a state of distress with various abilities and strength and possess the strength or quickness to rescue endangered persons. Use hands, fingers, arms, legs and body, feel objects and manipulate them, operate tools and equipment effectively. Use computers for word processing and data entry. Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. Lift and/or move objects weighing 100 pounds or more, including the limp body of a person. Meet a required level of proficiency with various testing processes used to establish standards for lifeguards and maintain a level of proficiency in such areas. Function fully in darkness and daylight, close and distance vision acuity, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision.
