Job Overview: This position works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight and daytime polysomnograms. He or she functions independently to safely operate advanced medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology, recognize sleep pathology, and respond with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and proper treatment. Knowledge of normal cardiorespiratory, neurological, sleep physiology, and certification in Basic Life Support is essential. Must be capable of performing such special procedures as Multiple Sleep Latency testing, infant/pediatric polysomnography, ambulatory monitoring, and patient education. Must be able to identify normal/abnormal patterns, artifacts, sleep/wake stages, and generate a report that accurately and concisely summarizes the patient's sleep/wake stages, respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, and other clinical events. After 18 months from hire date, must complete a polysomnography educational program that meets the requirements of the AASM and BRPT, and be eligible to sit for the RPSGT exam and must earn the RPSGT credential within one year from date of BRPT exam eligibility. Job Requirements: High School Degree or GED Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) Job Responsibilities: Functions independently according to guidelines of the Sleep Disorders Center. Interacts effectively with patients, coworkers, Supervisor/Manager and Medical Director. Takes vital signs. Proficient at sleep staging/respiratory scoring. Detects high-risk ventricular arrhythmias. Attends yearly EKG basic arrhythmia update course. Proficient in measuring, fitting and titrating CPAP and Bi-level therapy to standards. Understands TriHealth Policy & Procedures, and follows appropriate chain of command. Facilitates patient comfort and explains all facets of testing. Reviews existing patient information, orders, and protocols. Applies knowledge of polysomnographic equipment and verifies equipment is functioning properly and can provide troubleshooting. Monitors patients throughout scheduled recording period and makes any necessary adjustments. Identifies normal/abnormal patterns and generates a report of the patient's sleep staging and other clinical events. Completes efficient scoring applying professionally accepted guidelines. Reviews results with physician if unclear. Capable of performing various specialized procedures, ambulatory monitoring, and patient education. Confirms patient sleepover session and explains testing procedures. Helps to coordinate and schedule additional ancillary testing. Ensures proper storage of patient records. Documents all patient tracking. Initials and signs all papers completed. Verifies that data analysis scoring and pertinent information is complete prior to AM rounds. Verifies that all chart papers, photos, etc. are in proper chart location prior to end of shift. Operates advanced medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. Respond with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and proper treatment. Verifies that the Control Room, Patient Rooms, and halls are left in acceptable clean condition. Ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed. Assists in P&P development. Performs weekly supply inventory of storeroom items. Facilitates proper use & maintenance of all equipment. Participates in group tours, public speaking or education activities as directed. Notifies supervisor of emergencies or concerns. Assists new employees and trainees as requested by the Supervisor or Medical Director.
