The Political Operations Director will work closely with the Political Director, Deputy Political Director of Coalitions, Director of States, and Director of Special Projects in order to provide operational and organizational support to the DNC Special Projects, Coalitions, and States Teams. The Political Operations Director is responsible for ensuring the optimal day-to-day functioning of the Special Projects, Coalitions, and States teams as well as facilitating coordination and communication with other departments in the organization and key external partners.

The Political Operations Director will be a highly professional individual with superior organizational and management skills, demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, and strong attention to detail. Responsibilities include departmental tracking, hiring, completion of fiduciary responsibilities, and assistance with handling team priorities.

The Political Operations Director must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and have a personal commitment to the DNC's mission to win elections and build Democratic power. They must contribute to an atmosphere and organizational initiative in which diversity in all its dimensions is valued and supported. A collegial style, positive, upbeat attitude, innovative approach, and strong work ethic are key.

Responsibilities
  • Manage department-wide short- and long-term goal setting, and accountability, including helping provide team opportunities for professional development and training;
  • Work closely with Coalitions, Special Projects, and States team leadership on coordinating messaging, fundraising, and organizing priorities;
  • Manage high-level inter- and intra-departmental projects, including acting as the primary point of contact for Coalitions, Special Projects, and States products intended for use by other DNC departments;
  • Coordinate and track requests from within the organization and from key external partners;
  • Serve as departmental representative for DNC-wide initiatives and make sure the Coalitions and States department delivers creative and timely products in line with organizational objectives;
  • Manage reporting out on short- and long-term progress toward goals to organizational leadership and key external stakeholders;
  • Identify opportunities for the Coalitions and States to add value to building-wide priorities and facilitate strategic planning and execution to fulfill said value;
  • Assist with personnel management of departments;
  • Oversee administrative tasks for the department, including tracking expenses, invoices, and budgets;
  • Establish highly functional and efficient operational processes for department;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 2+ cycles of relevant experience in political, agency, non-profit, or progressive organizations;
  • Superb organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects;
  • Strong communications skills, particularly in communicating with organizational leadership and key stakeholders;
  • Ability to manage both laterally and vertically;
  • Keen sense of political judgment, especially when it comes to dealing with outside partners and surrogates;
  • Experience with project management platforms like Monday/Basecamp/Asana or similar products; and
  • Experience working directly with staffing elected officials, organizational principals, or celebrities is a plus.
The Political Operations Director position will require travel, which could be up to 15% of the time. The starting salary for the Political Operations Director position is $85,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position that has an end date of November 15, 2024.
