Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, CG Academy, Facilities Engineering Division, Public Works Branch in New London, CT. Responsibilities You will be responsible for performing maintenance and repair of various plumbing fixtures and defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include: Repairing and maintain plumbing systems by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems such as dirty traps, valves, sections of broken pipes, and leaking drains/plumbing fixtures. Measuring, cutting, bending, threading and installing replacement sections being careful to ensure accuracy of fit and absence of leaks. Installing replacement water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets, sinks, lavatories, showers, ice machines, dishwashing machines and other fixtures to existing plumbing systems. Utilizing safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations. Performing other duties as assigned including the removal of snow using tools and equipment (shovels, snow blowers, etc.) that are common to snow removal operations.
